Environments sets

Environment set components allows automating the definition of environmental load cases combining multiple waves, winds, currents, floater offsets, floater motion, prescribed loadings and prescribed motion.

This component is quite similar to the existing Wave Set component although it is more general since Wave sets only include wave data. The Environment Set component gathers several lists of individual environmental components such as waves, winds, currents, floater offsets and motions, prescribed loadings, and prescribed motion to structural Model Components. The Environment Set also defines how individual environmental loads are to be combined to set up a range of analysis conditions. The combination shall be setup through a dedicated Combination Matrix tab.

Environment set components then allow simple setup of series of static or dynamic analyses through Analysis Sets. Each analysis in the Analysis Set will be assigned environmental loadings according to the list of combined environments defined in the Combination matrix sheet. These components can be seen as load case matrices to be applied on a range of selected structural components.

The Environments Set component data form comprises the following main items:

  • A drop down list used to go from a given Environments Set component to another.

  • An Edit box used to define the name of the Environments Set component and standard OK, Save and Cancel action buttons.

  • The General sheet used to select the type of individual components are to be included in the Environment Set. Selection of components from this sheet raises additional sheets in the data form.

  • The Combination matrix sheet used to set up combined environments to be accounted for in the analyses. Content of this sheet must be setup once all individual environmental components are defined.

  • Additional sheets used to define the list of individual environment components, titled Swells, Local seas, Winds, Currents.

  • Additional sheets used to define the list of motion applied to floater components, titled Offsets, Low frequency imposed motion, and Floater motion.

  • Additional sheets used to define the list of prescribed motions applied to structural model components, titled QS motion and Dynamic motion.

  • Additional sheets used to define the list prescribed loadings applied to structural model components, titled QS loads and Dynamic loads.

  • Additional sheet used to define the list of wind turbines environment components.

  • Additional sheet used to define the list of User Defined keywords components.

When each option is switched on in the General tab, a new tab is created with the relevant name, for you to enter appropriate selection data: Each of these data sets appears as a table with some supplementary controls.

The combination matrix sheet lists all the environment sets in the analysis set with columns for each of the different types of environmental load - and also floater motion. Each of these can be modified via pull-down controls.
